Aziz Salim Mukadam

Assistant Professor

Mr. Aziz Salim Mukadam is an assistant professor of psychology at DLHS, bringing extensive expertise in clinical psychology and behavioral medicine from an evolutionary perspective. He is on the verge of earning his Ph.D in Clinical Psychology from National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS), Karnataka, India. Additionally, he holds an M.Phil in Clinical Psychology from NIMHANS, an M.A in Psychology (Specialization – Clinical Psychology) from Mumbai University, and a B.A in Psychology from Nagindas Khandwala College, affiliated with Mumbai University. He has also been awarded with Junior/Senior Research Fellowship by the University Grants Commission. An expert in the effects of rumination across psychiatric disorders, he investigates how we have evolved psychological mechanisms which may dysfunction leading to psychopathology. His research spanning the role of rumination (adaptive and maladaptive) among other behaviors in affecting sleep disorders such as nightmares, night-terrors, initial, middle, and terminal insomnia, to providing positive feedback to the emotion of sadness to escalate it to the syndrome of depression is instrumental in developing psychoeducation modules across various psychiatric disorders. His research interests further span across cognitive neuroscience, behavioral economics, psychometry, mindfulness, and yoga with an aim to develop transdiagnostic models which explain the development of psychiatric disorders from an evolutionary perspective, which can inform current behavioral medicine practices at a clinical level and preventive measures at a community level. He has authored publications in reputed national and international journals (list available here). In his most recent role, he served as an assistant professor at Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai. He also served as guest faculty at various institutes in Mumbai, teaching post-graduate psychology students. He has also been invited for guest lectures and workshops on application of psychological assessments, psychometrics, psychopathology, research methods and statistical analysis in psychology by various institutions in Bangalore and Mumbai. Mr. Mukadam is dedicated to merging clinical experience with research while fostering critical thinking and making learning an enjoyable experience with his teaching.
